Magnetic extraction

TAAG’s high-resolution melt (HRM) signature technology uses broad-range PCR followed by HRM to generate distinct DNA melting curve patterns (“signatures”). Machine learning algorithms are then used to match the results to a library of experimentally determined signatures for known organisms.

Extraction

Before we can do any testing with DNA (or its close relative RNA), we have to extract and purify it from the sample (in this context called the "matrix"). For lack of a better metaphor, extraction could be conceptualized as genetic sunglasses, blocking out the noise from other compounds so we can read more clearly. We call this noise "inhibition." Sometimes, it can be a surprisingly formidable foe.
